City of Abilene- Keep Abilene Beautiful
Keep Abilene Beautiful is an organization that hosts clean up events in the Abilene area and provides information to the community on how to take care of their surroundings. Meetings are held on the first Wednesday of the month at noon and is open to the entire community. Their website has a list of recycling centers around town, an article on "Xeriscaping", and upcoming events.
Most locations to drop of recyclable goods can be found in popular grocery store parking lots. These drop off centers accept things like newspapers, magazines, cardboard, aluminum cans, plastics, and glass containers. For more information click here.
What is Xeriscape? Well in Abilene we are dominated by dry and hot conditions. We are usually restricted to how much water we can use by the middle of June. So Xeriscape is a type of landscaping that conserves water and protects the environment by using sensible but beautiful plants that are made for our weather conditions. Want to learn more? Check out their article on good native plants for the Abilene and West Texas area.
In April 2012, the KAB organization will be coordinating a Spring Clean weekend, the 12-14th, and the Texas Trash Off on the 14th. More information can be found here closer to the spring season.
